Dolphins alongside, shooting stars above, trips to Guernsey, St Malo and Roscoff in hot sunshine and two great sailing days when the wind finally picked up…Team Helen Mary R had it all.
They returned happy and exhausted into St Mawes on Saturday 3 August, having covered 395 nm on their voyage.
A ‘welcome home’ barbecue was held in their honour at St Mawes Sailing Club, attended by parents, sponsors and the Morvargh Sailing Project team, operators of Helen Mary R.
Among the sponsors were members of Team Maybe 2023, who had raised enough funds to send two young people to sea this year.
RYST had a flood of messages from parents, all of which suggested the trip was memorable, including this from Will’s mother:
“Thank you all so much, what an incredible opportunity, an amazing experience with great company and friendships made. So much gratitude to each of you, all your hard work, kindness and making this an unforgettable memory. Will is hopeful to volunteer on another trip in the future to help others benefit from this experience too. Thank you so much.”
…and this from Adam’s father:
“First thing Adam said when he got home was “It’s the best thing I’ve ever done!” Waiting to hear more about the adventure once he’s woken up tomorrow. In the meantime, the washing machine is being gainfully employed! Thank you for everything.”
